The Rose Code by Kate Quinn

The Rose Code by Kate Quinn Narrated by Saskatoon Maarleveld Format - Audiobook Book rating 4 out of 5 stars Narration rating 5 out of 5 stars CONTENT WARING: Very vivid descriptions of bombing scenes and gore! All in all I really loved this book but felt it was not what the description said it was going to be about. Thus the 4 star rating. In the description they talk about the Enigma Code a lot but this book was not at all about that but about another code they had to break to find a traitor. The book does talk about the Enigma Code but just in passing and about how long it took to break it. This book did take a good look at our code breakers during World War 2. The unsung heroes who helped win the war and broke the Germans codes sometimes with in minutes of them coming into their facility. Most of these code breakers were women and the work they did for the war effort was amazing. This book showed a glimpse into three women’s work on the front lines breaking these c...

Nazi Wives by James Wyllie

Nazi Wives:The Women at the Top of Hitler’s Germany by James Wyllie   Genre - Non Fiction Format - Ebook 5 out of 5 stars This book is a very thorough look into what the wives of the top German officials went through! The brainwashing is just amazing and how they believed in the Nazi cause themselves is utterly mind blowing. I love to read books about World War 2 but this one just blew me away. It talks about how the women ended up in the Nazi movement and their early years. It talks about how they each met and married their husbands and stood behind them unwavering without any thought to what their husbands were actually doing. Hate is shown so clearly in this book even the children were taught to hate. In these times we live in I would strongly recommend this book. It shows how hating a certain type, race, or even political party can erode people and split countries in two pieces!  I will not say more as to not ruin the book but it should be on everyone’s t...

The Fabrege Secret by Charles Belfoure

Narrated by Nancy Peterson Format - Audiobook Genre - Historical Fiction Book 5 out of 5 stars Narration 5 out of 5 stars This was an amazing book set right at the beginning of the revolution in Russia. The narrator was great and did amazingly well on the accents. I think that is what made the book come alive for me.  The story was about Prince Dimitri Markhov and Doctor Katya Golitsyn one of a few female doctors of the time. It is all about how the revolution was started and of course Fabrege Eggs and other gifts made in the Fabrege style. Some of the details about the eggs are amazing.  It also showed how the upper class of that time lived. Affairs ran rampant and it was not unheard of to have a ménage type sex life. In fact Dimitri was married at the time he met Katya. Although himself and his wife were both having extramarital affairs. All that changes when he meets Katya. He is devoted to her from there on out. It also talks about the tensions between the Jews ...

Wyoming True by Diana Palmer

Format - Ebook I give this book a 3 out of 5 Stars This book was an easy read for me. I started it for that reason alone. I have long debated whether or not I want to continue reading Diana Palmer’s books because they are all almost the same. With that said I enjoyed this book in all it’s predictableness. It was your typical Palmer book. Man meets woman he despises. Finds out that she is really a good person even though she has a completely different persona that she puts forth in public. Then comes the marriage of convenience to protect her. Ending up with them falling in love.  This book does deal with the violence involved with domestic abuse. Which strikes a cord with me because I am a survivor of that. Definitely not to the extent that the woman in the book was abused but that is one of the things I like about Palmer’s books, she deals with the tough issues in society. I also like that there is always a knight in shining armor to help out in the woman’s time of need. After rea...

Band of Sisters By Lauren Willig

Band Of Sisters by Lauren Willig Narrated by Julia Whelan Genre - Historical Fiction Format Audiobook Release Date March 02, 2021 I rate the book a 5 of 5 stars I also rate the Narration 5 of 5 stars This book was amazing. It has a little bit of everything. War, Friendship, and even a little bit of Romance. I absolutely loved it. It is actually based on true stories of the Smith College Relief Unit going to France to help with the war effort. The narrator was perfect for this book. She did the voices perfectly and drew you further into the story. She also very upbeat and kept you wanting to listen. Not like some narrators that put you to sleep 5 minutes in. There are somethings that have been changed in the book but it is kept as true to the story as possible as the author used correspondence from the real ladies who did these incredible things. Although it was a fictional work. I was a little disappointed that the Spanish Flu pandemic was not mentioned in the book. Altho...

Jingle All The Way b Debbie Macomber

Genre - Christmas Romance Format - Hardcover Rating - 1 star out of 5 It makes me sick to look at this rating. Especially on a Debbie Macomber book, but it was just that bad. Not at all like her usual Christmas books. This book is based mostly in the Amazon Rainforest. That should tell you something right there. There was absolutely no mention of snow throughout the whole book. Also talk about Christmas was at a minimum which is also unlike Debbie Macomber.  The book seemed like it was a bit rushed. Like she was hurrying to make a deadline. I was so disappointed! I always look forward to her Christmas book every year and this was such a disappointment.  The premise of the book was the main character being overworked and needing a break. So, her assistant out of revenge books her on an Amazon River “Cruise.” All the main character knows is that she is going on a cruise. She is in for a big surprise. Along the way she starts to have fun. After being sick for most of...

Wrapped Up in Christmas Joy by Janice Lynn

Genre - Christmas, Romance F ormat Audiobook Narrated by Alexander Cendese and Rachel L. Jacobs I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars. Narration 4 out of 5 I loved this book. It combined two of my favorite things Firefighters and Quilt Shops with a bit of romance and one of my favorite charities Quilts of Valor. This book is published by Hallmark corporation which is also a plus because I love Hallmark during the holidays. The book is about Sophie and Cole. Sophie has found a diary that Cole has written and wants to return it to him. He does not want any part of that. It is based at Christmas time and it is the perfect back drop for the story. I really liked the audio version because Cole is narrated by a man and Sophie by a woman. This is one of the problems that I have with traditional audiobooks because sometimes it is hard to tell the characters are hard to tell apart. I would definitely recommend this audiobook to listen to while running around picking up those last few C...
